International Master, Romesh won the 2nd Sri Lanka Grand Prix Chess 2014

The only International Master in Sri Lanka Romesh Weerawardena won the Championship convincingly at the 2nd Sri Lanka Grand Prix Chess Tournament. 2nd Sri Lanka Grand prix was organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka with the aim of giving exciting Chess to the top players in Sri Lanka who are the hope of coming to the National Chess Team. A total prize fund of Rs. 100,000/= was offered to the winners. Romesh scored a total of 8.5 points out of the 11 points possible. Prasanna Kurukulasuriya scored 8 points to win the 2nd place while GC Anuruddha scored 7.5 points to receive the 3d place. The 2nd Sri Lanka Grandprix which was a round robin, 11 round event was organized at the Royal College Colombo from 21st to 29th of November 2014.

9th Asian Schools Chess Championships 2013 Finishes in Grand manner

The 9th Asian schools Chess Championships 2013 was a great success with a participation of 380 players from 14 Countries. India got the honour with 8 Golds while Host Sri Lanka was also glorious with 2 Golds, 5 Silver and Bronze Medals, Uzbekistan also received 2 Gold Medals, while UAE and Iran received 1 Gold medals each. The total Medal tally is as below; The event was organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation from 30th August to 7th September 2013 at the Citrus Hotel, Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka, This was the best Tourist destination in Sri Lanka with a lot of nice beaches. Australia, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia, South Korea, UAE, Uzbekistan and Yemen with Si Lanka participated in the event.

Anatoly Karpov Chess Club Organised a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition with the support of Grand Master Nigel Short

 

The Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre organized a Jt. Media Conference and a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition with the support of Grand Master Nigel Short who was a World Chess Championship Finalist, 3 Times European Chess Champion and Commonwealth Chess Champion. Grand Master Short played with 20 players at once at the Russian Centre and managed to win all the games. Grand Master Nigel Short played few moves of an Exhibition Game with Mr. Ayrat Akhmetov, Director of the Russian Centre in Colombo to inaugurate the Simultaneous Chess Tournament.
