Sachini Participate to World Women's Chess Championship 2012

Sachini Dinushima Ranasinghe is participating in World Women's Chess Championship 2012 representing Zone 3.2 and Sri Lanka, She will play two games against the Hou, Yifan (CHN) – (World Champion) on 11 November 2012 and the second match against the same opponent in 12 November at Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, So this is the first time ever a Sri Lankan player playing in Women’s World Individual Chess Championship and playing against a current world chess champion Hou, Yifan of China rating 2606.

About Sachini Dhinushima Ranasinghe She started chess when she was just 4 years with her brother Sahan Ranasinghe. She won National Women’s Chess Championship 3 times, She won the Asian Zonal 3.2 Championship last year and got a Women’s International Master title which was the first and only WIM title in Sri Lanka and elected to participate in Women’s World Chess Championship. She is a student of Musaeus College , Colombo ,Sri Lanka.

Women’s World Chess Championship is the tournament that select the world champion for 2 years period. Only 64 players around the world participating in this tournament. The tournament is going to held using knockout system.
