Anatoly Karpov Chess Club (AKCC) promoted CHESS in a big way!!!

The 500th Chess Coaching Camp of the ANATOLY KARPOV CHESS CLUB was conducted very successfully by Woman Fide Master and Fide Instructor Suneetha Wijesuriya who is the Founder President and the Chief Instructor of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre in Colombo recently at the 3rd Annual National Sports Exhibition of Sri Lanka SPORTEX – 2018 which was held at BMICH and organized by SPORTSINFO.

This was a result of the invitation made by Mr. Thilan Rangana, Chairman and the Managing Director of SPORTSINFO, who was the chief organizer of SPORTEX 2018, to Mrs. Wijesuriya, President of the ANATOLY KARPOV CHESS CLUB, most prestigious and most active chess club in Sri Lanka.
This year Anatoly Karpov Chess Club celebrates double jubilee, i.e. 20th Anniversary (1998 - 2018) and there were 500 chess workshops conducted island wide by Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya and their team in this period.
At the opening ceremony of the SPORTEX 2018 Exhibition the Anatoly Karpov chess club organized a raffle draw to select three winners of the chess players who solve the problems of puzzle (white wins in 2 moves) displayed in the demonstration board at the event.

The Chief Guest of the SPORTEX 2018, Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Petroleum Resources Development of Sri Lanka and the Captain of National Cricket Team which won the Cricket World Cup in 1996 and the Special Guest Mrs. Anastasia Khokhlova, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Director of the Russian Centre in Colombo both presented Chess boards to the three winners Methnula Hewawasam, Nethum Dulmika & Miss. Dehemi Belpage.
