Saumy Zainab won the Championship in World Amateur Chess Championship 2017 Rating Under 2000 Women Category

The World Amateur Chess championship was held in Spoleto, in the heart of Italy. The dates were April 1st to April 9th 2017. The games took placed in the Rocca Albornoziana in Spoleto, one of the most ancient cities in Italy. Spoleto is a wonderful city where art, history and culture are intertwined. Tournament was held as separate championships for the rating categories Under-2300, Under-2000 and Under-1700.
Pairings & Results
Saumy Zainab from Sri Lanka played in rating category 2000 women section. There were 10 participants from 08 nations. In starting rank list she listed as the 3rd place. Tournament was held as a 09 rounds round robin event with the time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 min. for the rest of the game + 30’’ increment for every move starting from move one.

Samumy finished the event with scoring 07 points out of the 09 games. Where she lost one game to Kristina Kim from KAZ in 5th round. She drew WCM Coelho Tatiane Cristine from BRA in 7th round and Gazman Paola from ARG in 9th round. She won the championship with leading one point in grand manner. At the end of the event she abled to increase her ELO rating from 9 points.
