Sri
Lanka Junior National Open and Girls Championships 2016 were organized
by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka from 2016/08/19 to 2016/08/22 at
Maha Mathya Vidyalaya, Polhengoda. Both the events were played according
to Swiss system with 07 rounds. There were 46 and 39 players for the open
and Girls events respectively.

G Sithija Lahiru (Bandaranayaka College, Gampaha) and H Niruksha Akshith
Sandeepa (Rahula College) tied for the first place with 06 points each
but Sithija won the championship with better tie breaker. Niruksha had
to satisfy with the second runner up and C U Hettiarachchi (D S Senanayaka
Vidyalaya) placed the third place with 5.5 points.

Y Wijesuriya (Visakha Vidyalaya) won the Girls Championship with 06 points
Askey Roshell Nathasha (Ave Maria Convent) became the first runner up
with 5.5 points and H M H Janandani Abeysinghe (Mahamaya Vidyalaya) had
to finish the event in second runner up place with 5 points. Three players
were tied for the third place but with great tie breaker Janandani secured
her position.
