Chess Workshop at Thelijjawila Central College, Akuressa

Junior Past Pupils Association – 2006, of Thelijjawila Central College, Akuressa, recently thought that they must give some intelligent thing to the youngsters in their school and organized a very useful chess coaching camp in College Main Hall with the blessings of the Principal, Mr. Wimal Vidanapathirana. Mr. Anuka Eranga Wetthasinghe, President of the Junior Past Pupils Association with the help of Ms. Shani Malsha, Secretary, Ms. Thakshala Mihirani, with the help of their committee members including Mr. Dulan and Mr. Tharaka was managed to give chess books and chess boards for the school chess club. Mr. Buddhika and Ms. Anoma both the teachers, in charge of chess were also present at the event.

Most Experience Chess Trainer, Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, President and the Chief Chess Instructress of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club and the Chairperson of Lanka Chess Foundation who is the Sri Lankan Gold Medalist in the 30th World Chess Olympiad conducted the seminars. Mr. Bandula Withanage, Web Master of lankachess.com and Mr. Nishantha Withanage were also assisted at the practical session. There were about 100 students participated in this valuable chess training program and refreshment also organized by the Junior Past Pupils Association. Mr. Anuk Wetthasinghe, President of the Association mentioned that they will organize a chess tournament among the students with the help of Mrs. Wijesuriya and arrange the maximum support to upgrade this Nobel Game “CHESS “in their school. This will be a good example for the other Old Boys Associations and Past Pupils Associations also. .
