5th Negombo Chess Festival 2019 was held 2019/08/16 To 2019/08/20 at Negombo Town Hall with the participation of 588 players including 2 International Masters. FIDE Master C.Anuruddha Galappaththi managed to win his third Negombo Chess Festival Championship while Tiumi Yashora was ahead of all female participation.

Denuwan Theekshana became the best local under 18 player and he was received the special prize- air ticket to 2020 Dilhi Open in India.

Sri Lanka Navy won the Mercantile Sector Championship while State Pharmaceuticals Team became the first runner-up. University of Moratuwa clinched Higher Education Sector championship while University of Colombo became the first runner up.

There were 2 entertainment blitz events as open and parents. FM Anuruddha won the open section blitz championship while Chamil Kottage became champion of the Parents Event.

The closing ceremony was colorful with the presence of Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya-Vice President of Asian Chess Federation and Mr. Joseph Jayasinghe-the most senior active chess player of Sri Lanka as well as Senior Citizens Category Champion of the event. The event was successfully organized by the Gampaha District Chess Association and the chief arbiter was International Arbiter Naditha Amarakoon. “Nurtr.com-the dream partner” was supported the event in terms of technology involvement.
