Munasinghe Wins Novices Chess Championship
		GDAD Munasinghe of DS Senanayake College won the Sri Lanka Novices Division Chess Championship convincingly, scoring 6 ½ points out of possible 7. The Sri Lanka Nationals Novices Division Chess Championship, conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka was held from 30^th January to 2^nd February 2009 at Royal College, Colombo.
There were a total of 106 players in the event from all over the country. Young Munasinghe who is one of the promising players in the country just gave only one draw and scored 6 full points in his winning path. Dinushka Jayasuriya, also from DS Senanayake College won the 2^nd place scoring 6 out of 7 while Hasitha J Pathirana of Richmond College had to satisfy with the 3^rd place on the tie breaker after scoring 6 out of 7 games. The following players will be eligible to play in the Major Championship from this year. 6½ points -Munasinghe D.G.A.D, . 6 points-  Jayasuriya Dinushka Dilshan, Pathirana Hasitha  5 ½ points - Liyanapathirana P Vindula, Amarasinghe GH Manoj, Samaranayaka KPRN,  5 points - Priyankara Praneeth, Ekanayake Jeshan, Perera Nipun A, Kumara C.M.S.Pranieth, Withanage Tharindu, Dodangoda Sathira ,Wimalasooriya M Kasun, Subasinghe Hasaranga, Ithmal Dasan, Kavinda Thimira, Sandamith W Minura, Chamira K.A.Nimasha, Perera Dinesh Jerome, Weerasekara Kasun, 4 ½ points - Jayanetti Nisal, Ranmith W Sanura, Kuruppu Supun Dasantha, Jayasinghe Janith Udayanga, Vinothraj A.G, Sandesh Udara, Wickramasinghe T Nirmal Luxman Wijesuriya Hony.
