Harshana carries the Sri Lankan flag to the Asian Winning Inter Continental Youth Chess Cup |

The Inter Continental
Online Youth Chess Cup organized by the European Chess Union with the
support of FIDE, the World Chess Federation was held on the 10th of October
2020. The event consisted of the 4 FIDE continents: Asia, Africa, America
and Europe, pitting a 16 person team to battle it out over 6 rounds. Each
team comprised of 2 girls and 2 boys from each age category from U12 to
U18 |

The event was conducted as 6 round double Round Robin event where each team played twice with other three continents. Asia shined by beating Europe once (8 ½- 7 1/2), America twice (14-2) (14-2), Africa twice (16-0) (15 ½ - ½ ) and one draw with Europe (8-8). It was held at the Tornelo.com flat form with the time control of 10 minutes + 2 seconds. | |
Former National Chess
Champion and Sri Lankan Chess prodigy International Master Harshana Thilakarathne
of Maliyadeva College was selected to represent the Asian team by getting
selected through the senior most age category. This is the first time
a Sri Lankan has received this honour. Harshana scored 3 points out of
6 games he played. |
