Sayuni Wins South Asian Zone of the Asian Girls Online Rapid Chess Championship 2020

Sayuni Gihansa Jayaweera of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, the Women's National Chess Champion of Sri Lanka won the Championship of the Souths Asian Zone of the Asian Girls (Under 20 Yers) Online Rapid Chess Championship today. She scored 6 points out of possible 7 games just giving two draws to her team mate and to a girl from Bangladesh.
Asian Junior/ Girls online Rapid Chess Championships were organized by the Asian Chess Federation from 27th May to 4th June 2020 via the Chess site, Chess.com. The Asian Chess Federation is offering attractive cash awards with Medals and Trophies for the winners. All security measures are taken to stop cheating with computer by the host, Chess.com. Initially, there are tournaments in the zonal level in 7 zones established in Asia. The Winners of the Zone Tournaments are expected to play in the finals of the Asian Girls Online Rapid Chess Championship 2020 to be held on 3rd and 4th June 2020. The 3rd player, Young Sanindula Dahamdi scored scored 4 points and placed 6th.
Thihansa Devnethmi Dahampriya of Visakha Vidyalaya won the third place scoring 5 1/2 points out of possible 7 games. Sle led the event till the final round and lot to a lesser rated player of Bangladesh had to satisfy with 3rd place.Noshin Anjum of Bangladesh won the 2nd place. So, Sayuni and Thihansa will play in the Finals of Asian Girls online Rapid Chess Championship on 3rd June 2020.
Harshana Thilakarathne of Maliyadeva colllege had to satisfy with the 3rd place at the Souths Asian Zone of the Asian Junior (Under 20 Yers) Online Rapid Chess Championship after he got defeated by the Bangladesh International Master Mohommed Fahad in the 3rd round. He scored 5 1/2 out of possible 7 games and secured a seat at the finals of the Asian Junior online Rapid Chess Championship to be held on 4th June 2020. Other two Sri Lankan Players, DMGS Dassanayake of St Sylwesters College and Theekshana Denuwan of Ananda College placed 4th and 5th respectively.
