Ceremony of the Golden Square Members Chess Tournament of year 2016 was
held recently at the Auditorium of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo.
Mrs. W.B.G. Kumudunie, Principal of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya graced
the occasion as the Chief Guest and Mr. Devaka Wijesinghe, Director of
PENFIELD Group Ltd and Mrs. Wijesinghe both graced the ceremony as Guests
of Honour. This year National Chess Champion Fide Master Minul Doluweera
and Candidate Master Dinul Doluweera who won lots of events and former
students of WFM/FI Suneetha’s at the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of
the Russian Centre were Special Guests. There were 50 Medals and certificates
were awarded at the event. Madam Principal thanked Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya,
Chairperson and the Chief Chess Instructress of the Golden Square International
Chess Association and the team for the untiring efforts that they have
taken to promote chess in Sri Lanka.
