44th FIDE World Chess Olympiad 2022 - Round 9 |
The Chess Olympiad 2022 which takes
place from the 29th of July to the 10th of August in Chennai, India, is
the 44th Chess Olympiad, aligned by FIDE. Olympiad matches consist of
two categories, the Open section and the Women’s section. Every
team consists of four players plus one reserve player. Olympiad will be
held in the format of a total of 11 rounds, in which the pairings will
be done under the Swiss system of Olympiad pairing system. |
The 9th round of both the Women’s
and the Open categories was held on 7th of August, 2022 at 3.00PM. A total
of 186 teams participated in the Open section. In the 9th round of the
Open section Sri Lanka went against Iraq, in which the Sri Lankan team
obtained a perfect score of 4 points with all the team members defeating
their respective opponents. With that the Sri Lankan team climbed its
rank to number 66. After the 9th round today, the top three slots were
acquired by Uzbekistan, India 2 and Armenia respectively. Sri Lanka will
take on Bolivia in tomorrow’s 10th round which is scheduled to be
held at 3.00PM. |
In the Women’s section, a
participation of a total of 159 teams could be seen. In the 9th round
the Sri Lankan team was paired with Latvia. Unfortunately the Sri Lankan
team could only score a total of 0.5 points against their opponents, with
H.M.H.J.Abesinghe obtaining a draw and the other team members all witnessing
a defeat against their respective opponents. The Sri Lankan team was announced
to be placed rank number 84. After this match the top three spots of this
section are now currently being obtained by Poland, India and Kazakhstan.
In the next match the Sri Lankan team will go head-to-head against the
Dominican Republic. |
