| 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 – Round 02 |
| Games of the 44th Chess Olympiad
2022 were started on 29th July 2022 at Mahabalipuram, Chennai. Olympiad
consists of two events. Open and women's category. Olympiad will be held
in the format of 11 rounds under the Swiss system of Olympiad pairing
system. |
| The second round of both the open
and women’s category was held on 30th July 2022 and round started
at 03.00 pm. 184 teams were paired for the second round. In the second
round, Sri Lanka played against Bahamas in 65th match. Sri Lanka won the
round comprehensively scoring 3.5 points. K G T S D Kiriella, FM Ranindu
Dilshan Liyanage & IM L M S T De Silva won their respective games
while FM Isuru Alahakoon went into a draw with his opponent. Sri Lanka
open team will compete with North Macedonia in the third round which is
going to begin at 3.00 pm on 31st July 2022. |
| In the women’s section,
157 teams were paired for the second round. In the second round, Sri Lanka
was paired with the Togo team in 57th match and won the round scoring
04 points. WCM G P Y Wijesuriya, WIM S D Ranasinghe, Desandhi Dhihansa
Gamage & H M H Janandadi Abeysinghe won their respective games. This
gave them a good motivation for the upcoming rounds. Sri Lankan women’s
team is expected to play against Canada in the third round that is set
to begin on 31st July at 3.00 pm. |
