A book launching ceremony of “ Navaka Obata Chess Denuma”was held recently at the Auditorium of the Public Library, Colombo 07. Mr. Manuel Aaron, Indian First International Master and nine times All India National Champion graced the ceremony as a Special Guest. Mr. Ayrat Akhmetov, Director of Russian Centre in Colmbo, Mr. Rohan Senanayake, Patron of the Mercantile Chess Association and the Deputy Chairman of Seylan Merchant Bank and Mr. Ramal Jasinghe, President of the Mercantile Chess Association and the Chief Executive Officer of Asian Alliance Insurance were also graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. This “ Navaka Obata Chess Denuma” book was written by Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, Sri Lankan one and only chess Olympiad Gold Medalist and 10 times Womens National Chess Champion.

The Author says that since chess helps to develop the players mind they can do it as almost an educational activity without thinking not only as a sport. Today this has been realized well by the principals, teachers, parents and students. This book contains about the introduction about the chess board, chess pieces, chess moves, special moves, check, check mate and the interesting part of chess, how to attack and how to escape and the aim of the game. This book is a guide line not only for the new comers but also the teachers and the coaches to use since it contains with the diagrams and activities.
