A successful chess coaching camp was conducted by Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, Chairperson of Lanka Chess Foundation and the President of Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre, and this was coordinated by Mr. Janaka Sanjeewa Pathirana and Mr. Sadeep Jayanath Mahawithana, Chess Instructors of various schools in Alawwa on 4th February 2011.

There were about 300 participants including students from Alawwa Sri Rahula National School, Humbuluwa Central College and Rathanalankara Maha Vidyalaya and their parents. Mr. A.M.D. Rajapakse, Principal of Rathanalanjara Maha Vidyalaya, Mr.S.M.U. Samarakoon, Primary Principal, Mr. Gunasekara Adikari, Vice Principal, U.B. Wasantha, PTI, Mrs. Deepika Wasanthi Perera and Inoka Priyadarshani and some other few teachers were also grace the opening ceremony.

At the end of the event 1st three places of each year 7 & 9 chess players who prepared chess magazines received 6 prizes and it was organized by Mr. Janaka Sanjeewa. Also for entertainment chess players sang 2 songs Sinhala and English at the event.
