8th Adyar Times FIDE Rated Open Chess

Come Adi the most religious month of Tamil Calender,South Chennai will be a centre of attraction for the chess players of Chennai.

This year too the traditional event has been organized by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association from July 28 to August 3,2008 at Tiruvanmiyur in the close vicinity of Bay of Bengal.Sponsored by Adyar Times the weekly news magazine,with the total prize fund of Rs.80000/- the tournament had attracted 186 entries from all over India including one from United States and also 8 from Srilanka.

The top seed is S.Nitin the Asian Under 11 champion who also happened to be the FIDE Master.The only Internatioal Master of the event
is D.P.Singh of Southern Railway who was a member of the Indian squad in the Turin Chess Olympiad in 2006.The other FM of the competition is K.V.Shantaram of Indian Bank.Apart from these title holders a cream of young talents like Ramnath Bhuvanesh a gold medalist in the 4th Children of
Asia international games festival which he grabbed only last year in Russia.

There are 86 rated players in the fray and it has given a wide opportunity for the unrated players to qualify themselves for the rating.
