Prize giving of the
5th Golden Square International Chess Association Chess Tournament was
held recently at the Public Library Auditorium, Colombo and there were
about 200 prize winners. Mr. Andrey M. Nazarkin, the Director of the Russian
Centre in Colombo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Buddhapriya
Ramanayake, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian Centre and Mrs. W.B.G.
Kumudinie, Principal of Rathnavai Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo both participated
as Guests of Honour.
At this prize giving
Prince of Wales College received the Overall Chess Championship Trophy
among the boys schools and Kiribathgoda Viharamaha Devi Balika Vidyalaya
won the Overall Trophy among the girls schools.
Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, President of the Golden Square International Chess Association mentioned about the heavy chess promotional activities that they conducted under the guidance and support of the Russian Centre and informed all the chess players and parents to join hand with the forth coming activities that they are going to have through the Lanka Chess Foundation, as a fund raising project to build the Chess Centre in their land in Colombo 5.
