As the second step to promote the strategic game of chess within the Sri Lanka Navy, A very successful chess coaching camp conducted by Anatoly Karpov Chess Club joined with Lanka Chess Foundation on Thursday, 10th September 2009 at the Head Quarters of Western Naval Command Area at Colombo Fort. There were participants from the Naval command Areas in West, East, South, North, North Central and North Western.

This chess workshop was organized by Commander Udaya Dampage, Chaiman of Chess in Srilanka Navy with the blessings of Commodore Dec Jayakody at Western Naval Command Head Quarters. It was held for eight hours under three sections. As the 1st part of the event Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, President of the Lanka Chess Foundation and the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club conducted the seminar and Mr. Bandula Withanage, Web Master of www.lankachess.com , Mr.Shelton Wijesuriya, President of Kolonnawa Chess Academy, Mr. Nishantha Withanage, International Rated Player, Miss.Chamika Madubashini and Mr. Srimal Sachinthana Wijesuriya Asst.Chess Coaches given an voluntary service to conduct this event. As the 2nd part of the event arrange a practical session and the participants played few games and as the 3rd part a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition Display was conducted by International Rated Player Mr. Nishantha Withanage, Chess Instructor of the Russian Centre
