CHESS PUZZLES SOLVING COMPETITION

1. Central Province Chess Association cordially invites the school children of the central
Province, Kurunegala, Badulla, Kegalle, and Ratnapura districts to take part in the above competition which is scheduled to be held on 8th and 10th of March, 2009 at Sri Rahula College, Katugastota, Kandy.
2. Nature of the competition: There will be a set of 10 puzzles to be solved within a given time frame. Different sets, with varying degrees of standards according to the age groups, will be given. A sample is given below. There will also be some simple questions on general knowledge of the game of chess

3. Age groups: under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 16. Students must be under their respective age groups as at 01.01.2009.
4. Schedule: Under 10 : 8.00 a.m.– 12.30 p.m. on 08.03.2009
Under 12 : 1.00 p.m.– 04.30 p.m. on 08.03.2009
Under 14 : 8.00 a.m.– 12.30 p.m. on 10.03.2009
Under 16 : 1.00 p.m.– 04.30 p.m. on 10.03.2009
5. Entries could be sent to the address given below or through a coach or a representative of the CPCA to reach us. They can also be handed over at the time of registration. An entry fee of Rs.200/- is payable. Please note that the schedule is different from a chess tournament and you have to be at the venue only at the time on the day applicable to your age group.
