Asian Schools Chess Championship will begin on Saturday, 31st August in Sri Lanka

There will be over 300 participants in this year Asian School Chess Championship from 16 countries including Australia, India, Maldives, United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Yemen and Sri Lanka. The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka has arranged to conduct the tournament at the Hotel Citrus in Hikkaduwa.
There are three categories in the tournament as classical standard, Rapid for 25 minutes per each player and Blitz Championship for 5 minutes for each. The Age Groups of the above chess championship are under 5, 7, 9,11,13,15 and 17.
The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka conducted a press conference recently at the Royal College Auditorium with the present of the Chief Executive Officer of the World Chess Federation Geoffrey Borg of Malta. Mr. Upali Gunasekera, President of the Chess Federation, Mr. Lakshman Wijesuriya, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Chess Federation both the Sri Lankan First International Rated Players men and women, Professor Chandana Gunathilake and Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist and First Women Fide Master Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, International Arbiter Erosh Jayasinghe and Mr. Naditha Amarakoon were participated the event with large number of media representatives.

1st September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-1 at 0930 hrs
1st September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-2 at 1630 hrs
2nd September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-3 at 0930 hrs
2nd September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-4 at 1630 hrs
3rd September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-5 at 0930 hrs
3rd September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-6 at 1630 hrs
4th September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-7 at 0930 hrs
4th September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-8 at 1630 hrs
5th September 2013: Standard Chess Championship Round-9 at 0930 hrs
5th September 2013: Blitz Chess Championship (First Round at 1500 hrs)
5th September 2013: Closing Ceremony at 1900 hrs
