Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, the Olympiad Gold medalist is also awarded WFM Title!

This is to inform all that Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya is the latest award of the Women FIDE Master title for her performance at the Chess Olympiad 1992, Manila to win the Gold medal with 6.5 out of 8 points. Congratulations Suneetha! The FIDE informed me that they awarded the title today.

It is a Golden prize for her since she celebrated the 20 years of winning the Gold medal at the Chess Olympiad Yesterday at Colombo Hilton felicitating 20 highest Chess performers in Sri Lanka. Actually, Suneetha must be the 1st Women FIDE master since she deserves the title with two performances the Gold medal in 1992 and 7 out of 11 Games in the Chess Olympiad 1996 in Yerevan, Armenia.

The Chess Federation thank Mr. Sisira Amarasinghe also for reminding us the new rule of ' a player can be awarded a title with the required performance event he/she has less number of Games.
