The Annual Award Ceremony of the open chess tournament of the Ananda College – Primary Chess Club was held recently at the prestigious Kularathne Hall and Mr. L.M.D. Dharmasena, Principal of Ananda College graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Mahavitha, Deputy Principal of Ananda College and Mrs. Seetha Kulatunge, Head Mistress and Vice Principal of Ananda College both graced the ceremony as Guests of Honour.

At this ceremony about 250 Ananda chess youngsters received medals and certificates. There was a special event at this occasion to honour their beloved teacher Mrs. Padmini Wijesinghe who was the teacher in-charge of chess for the last 15 years who retired the school on 5th of February 2013.

Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist and the 1st Woman Fide Master in Sri Lanka and the Chess Instructress of the Ananda College mentioned that she got the opportunity to upgrade the knowledge of primary chess players and given a good foundation to create lots of Chess Champions to Ananda College with the support of Mrs. Padmini Wijesinghe. She thanked her for this untiring work for the last 15 years of this out going teacher in-charge and convey the gratitude on behalf of all the chess players and all the parents.

Mrs. Seetha Kulatunge, Head Mistress of Ananda College – Primary section said that she is really happy to see the progress of the chess players and thanked the teacher in-charge, Mrs. Padmini Wijesinghe and Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, Chess Instructress for their untiring efforts.

Mr. L.M.D. Dharmasena, Principal of Ananda College mentioned that he is very happy to see the lots of activities towards the chess promotional arena in the College through the primary chess club and specially thanked the teacher in-charge Chess in primary for the last 15 years, Mrs. Padmini Wijesinghe and Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, Chess Instructress of the school. Principal mentioned that Mrs. Suneetha is not only our primary chess coach but also she is a dynamic organizer and we all are lucky to have her service to Ananda College. Mrs. Wijesuriya always giving the necessary support and the guidance to the school and we are happy to continue our support in the future activities.
