Anatoly Karpov Chess Club celebrated the 15th Anniversary at the Russian Centre Auditorium recently. Mr. Andrey M. Nazarkin, Counselor of the Russian Federation and the Director of the Russian Centre in Colombo was the Chief Guest and Mr. Ramal Jasinghe, President of Mercantile Chess Association & the Chief Executive Officer of Asian Alliance Insurance PLC, Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, President of Fide 3.1 Zone and the Secretary of Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Adviser to Hon. President Mahinda Rajapakse and the Secretary of Sri Lanka Russia Friendship Society, Mr. Buddhapriya Ramanayake, Chief Exective Officer of the Russian Centre, A.D.M.D. Bandara, Principal of Thurstan College, Mrs. W.B.G. Kumudunie, Principal of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Mrs. Sriyani Tissaarachchi, Principal of Presbytarian Girls School, , Mrs. Seetha Kulatunge, Headmistress of Ananda College primary section, Mr. Erosh Jayasinghe, International Arbiter, Mr. Kapila Withanage, Director & Mr. Sajith de Silva, Chief Executive Officer of eBEYONDS (Pvt) Ltd were graced the occasion as Guests of Honor.

Anatoly Karpov Chess Club conducted a chess tournament among the 15 age categories to mark the 15th Anniversary & medals and certificates were awarded at this ceremony.

Mr. Andrey M. Nazarkin, Counselor of the Russian Federation and the Director of the Russian Centre in Colombo, who was the Chief Guest of the event played an exhibition game with Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist, Sri Lankan1st Women Rated Player & 1st Women Fide Master Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, who is the President of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre.
