Anatoly Karpov Chess Club has celebrated the 12th Anniversary
Anatoly Karpov Chess Club has celebrated the 12th Anniversary in a Grand Level at the Russian Centre Auditorium on 29th October 2010. Mr. Ayrat Akhmetov, 1st Secretary of the Russian Embassy and the Director of the Russian Centre in Colombo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Buddhapriya Ramanayake, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian Centre, Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, Secretary of the Common Wealth Chess Federation and the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, Mr. Sumith Pinnawala, Chairman & Managing Director of Climax Marketing Services and Director of Lanka Chess Foundation, Major General Siri Ranaweera, Director of the Defence Services College, Mr. L.M.D. Dharmasena, Principal of Ananda College, Mr. D.M.D. Dissanyake, Principal of D.S. Senanayake College, Mr. W. Wickremathileke, Principal of Veluwana College, Mrs. S. Thaldena, Principal of Stafford International School, Mrs. P. Padmini, Deputy Principal of Sri Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya were also there as Guests of Honour.
There were about 250 participants including 100 winners of under 12 chess tournament conducted by A. Karpov Chess Club to commemorate the 12th Anniversary. All of them admired the video presentation made by Mr. Bandula Withanage, Web Master of www.lankachess.com about the activities done by this chess club island wide.
By welcoming the participants, Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, President and the Chief Instructor, mentioned the activities done by the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club in the last 12 years. Since our idea is to help the Sri Lankan Chess players and create chess Grand Masters in the country we are ready to organised more & more activities in the future also she added.
Mr.Ayrat Akhmetov, Director of the Russian Centre mentioned that we all are happy and proud to have Mrs. Suneetha, the Dynamic lady at the Russian Centre as the President of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club to organize chess activities regularly to upgrade the chess knowledge of lots of Sri Lankan Chess Players. Mr. Akhmetov wish her and the club for a very successful & a bright future.
Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals were awarded to the winners of the Age Group Chess Tournament conducted by the club in 12 categories as under 7,8,9,10,11,12 Boys & Girls.
