Western Asian Youth Chess Championship 2021

The Biggest Online Chess Championships to be organized by Sri Lanka
The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is ready to organize the biggest Asian Online Event, the Western Asian Online Youth Chess Championships from 18th to 20th September 2021 at the Tornelo Platform. The Event conducted by the Asian Chess Federation has attracted more than 1000 players from 15 Western Asian Countries.
The event will be held as 12 age category events of under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 Boys and Girls. The Asian Chess Federation has categorized, South Asia, Arab and the Russian Speaking countries of Asia as the Western Asian Countries. More than 1000 players from 14 countries has fielded their entries to participate in the event.
India has fielded the biggest contingent with 378 players while Sri Lanka also will field more than 300 players for the competition. Iran also had fielded a big team of 161 players. Other countries who have registered for the event are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Oman, Kuwait, Palestine, Jordan and UAE. One player is playing under FIDE, the World Chess Federation.
Sri Lankan Team is also fielded with the Newest Under 10 Girls Online World Chess Champion and the eligible players from the Online Olympiad Chess Team with the players who have performance at the CFSL Online Youth Chess Championship 2021.
The Championships will be conducted on the Swiss System in 9 rounds, having 3 games a day. The Newly approved FIDE Online Chess regulations will be followed and the time control is 15 minutes a side with 10 seconds increment for each and every move played. Only the laptop/ Desktop computers are allowed in participating while players are closely observed by the arbiters via zoom meeting. Players should have two cameras, one camera/ Webcam to see the player while other to see his surrounding as side camera.
The Virtual Opening Ceremony will be held on 18th of September 2021 at 11.00 a.m. in Zoom and Hon. Namal Rajapakse, the Minister of Sports is expected to participate as Chief Guest with his Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nehyan, the President of Asian Chess Federation.
The Chess Federation has decided to award big Cash prizes for Sri Lankan Players who excelled in this event.
