Oshini Gunawardhana is the new Asian Youth Champion in the Under 10 Girls category

Devindya Oshini Gunawardhana of Wycherley International School was crowned as the Asian Youth Under 10 Girl champion. She scored 8.5 points from 9 rounds where she only drew in the 8th round against her opponent Bahar Mirzakhani of Iran. At the start of the tournament, she ranked third place and from the start, she dominated the event. She secured the championship before the final round where she led the ranking table with 1.5 points in the 8th round. Added to the championship, with her performance she achieved the Woman Candidate Master title. Oshini is the Under 10 champion in World Youth Online Chess Championship 2021.
Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022 is underway in Bali, Indonesia from the 15th to the 20th of October at the Grand Inna Kuta Hotel. Asian Youth Chess Championship 2022 is organised by the Indonesian Chess Federation on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation. 451 Players from twenty Asian countries competed in the event in 12 categories.
Mr Akila Kavinda working as her trainer since 2020 and with his guidance, she won several championships including the world youth online under 10 girls' championship in 2021.
