44th FIDE World Chess Olympiad 2022

The Opening Ceremony

The opening Ceremony of the 44th chess Olympiad 2022 took place on 28th July at 6 pm Indian Standard Time. The ceremony was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and India welcomed all the teams from across the globe. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event. The opening ceremony was held in a grand scale with a variety of performances such as dances and musical events. With a large gathering, it brought up the cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The indoor stadium of Jawaharlal Nehru sparkled with lighting and even a sense of excitement was seen in the faces of the people at the opening ceremony.
The entire teams that are going to take part in the tournaments marched through the arena at the opening ceremony. We could see the highest number of countries taking part in the Olympiad this year. 187 countries are competing this time .188 teams in the open section and 162 teams in the women’s section are expected to play this time for the gold silver and bronze medals.
The government of Tamil Nadu allocated INR 92 CR for the organization of the Olympiad in Mahabalipuram and even for promotional activities.
