| 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 – Round 03 |
| The third round of both women's
and the open category was held on 31st July 2022. It started at 03.00
pm. 184 teams were paired for the third round of the open section. In
the third round, Sri Lanka played against North Macedonia in the 42nd
match. Sri Lanka was unfortunate to win the match against North Macedonia.
Although Sri Lanka scored 1 point, FM Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage and IM
L M S T De Silva went to draws with their opponents, FM Emil Risteski
& IM Toni Lazov respectively. In the match between strongest Norway
and Italy, where Norway ranked 3rd in the starting rank list and Italy
26, Italy beat Norway 3-1. GM Magnus Carlsen, the current world champion
who is representing the Norwegian team had to be satisfied with a draw
against GM Daniele Vocaturo from Italy in board number 1. Sri Lanka's
open team is going to play against Sierra Leone in the fourth round which
is going to commence at 3.00 pm on 01st of August 2022. |
| In the women’s section,
157 teams were paired for the third round. Sri Lanka was paired with the
Canada team in the 37th match. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka could not win
the third round against Canada. Although Sri Lanka lost the three matches
against Canada, WIM SD Ranasinghe went to a draw with his opponent, Morgen
Mills, in the third match. United States of America and Armenia who were
on top of the starting rank list(7 & 9 positions)lost to their matches
against Mongolia & Estonia who ranked 28 & 30 respectively. Sri
Lankan women's team is going to play against Aruba in the fourth round
which is scheduled on the 01st of August at 3.00 pm. |
