The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka will hold the first ever National Blitz Chess Championship in July this year. The tournament has been organized as a promotional event with all proceeds to be utilized to employ a top-notch foreign coach.

This individual event will be conducted in the form of four preliminary events in Colombo, Kandy, Galle and Kurunegala and in six categories (Under 11, Under 15, Open Girls and Open). The Kandy and Galle events will be held on Saturday, 5th of July 2008 and Colombo and Kurunegala events will be held on Sunday, the 6th of July 2008. The venues will be notified later.

The entry fee will be Rs. 200/- per player.1st three in the regional events will be given medals while all the qualifiers will be given certificates.

The Finals will be arranged to be played on 27th July 2008 in a grand manner. A Total cash prize of Rs 30,000/= is offered for the Championship while lunch and refreshments are also provided. An entry fee of Rs. 500/- is charged for the finals.
